Bon Bons
by Focus On MusicA musical virtuoso is an artist on a quest to explore higher musical ground. Imagine such a noble journey with a tuba strapped to your back! Such is the life of Patrick Sheridan, tuba virtuoso. Patrick's mission is to play the tuba at the level of this century's great violinists. Such a daunting task takes the courage of an explorer and a "larger than life" musical personality. His ultimate goal is to have the audience forget for a time that they are listening to a tuba.
In this musical feast in which the main courses are beauty of tone and technical brilliance, one is bound to develop an insatiable hunger for the just desserts of rhythmic hilarity and just plain fun. All is not virtuous with Patrick's virtuosity! There is a hefty dollop of devilishness in his representation of the sweet Bon Bon, The Hot Canary. In this tune, Patrick portrays a 400-pound songbird with a five-octave range. As if that isn't enough, Patrick is joined by his equally zany piano partner, Rich Ridenour, in a wild ride on the dessert cart through the New Orleans classic, Tiger Rag. At this point in the recording, when the lunatics have taken over the asylum, what better way to finish our meal than with an aperitif of music by the quintessential jazz trio combination of two tubas and bongos!?!
