Launch Pad for Trombone: Blast Off! Tone and Technique encourages healthy fundamentals from the very first day of playing. Designed to develop trombone skills in fun and practical ways, there are ten sections devoted to various trombone skills, goals at the beginning of each section, and tips scattered throughout. Written in a style appealing to youngsters, this book is the perfect compliment to traditional band methods.
Aaron Helvig is an educator and musician in Nashville, Tennessee. He is currently the Band Director at I.T. Creswell Arts Magnet Middle School. Previously, he taught band at BASIS Schools, in Flagstaff, Arizona. He completed the Master of Music degree in Instrumental Conducting from NAU, studying under Dr. Daniel Schmidt. As a Graduate Assistant, he conducted the NAU Collegiate Band, and guest conducted various performance ensembles. While attending NAU, Mr. Helvig presented a lecture titled 'The Centennial Pierrot: An Evaluation on Nineteenth-Century Romanticism and Degeneracy in Schoenberg’s Pierrot lunaire' and conducted two successful performances of Schoenberg’s Pierrot lunaire, marking the piece's 100th Anniversay. Prior to his graduate studies, he received the Bachelor of Music Education degree from NAU.
Mr. Helvig has been on staff and conducted the Coconino High School Wind Ensemble. He has taught a number of master classes and private lessons to public school students. As an instructor at the Curry Summer Music Camp, he taught classes on conducting, music technology, and trombone. As a trombonist, Mr. Helvig has performed with the NAU Wind Symphony, which has included performances at the 2006 and 2010 CBDNA Conferences, a tour to Germany, and recording for Carl Fisher Music. He has also performed with the Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra, jazz artists Randy Brecker, Conrad Herwig, Dave Liebman, and Maria Schnieder, and the Motown group The Temptations. Mr. Helvig is the author of Launch Pad for Trombone: Blast Off Tone and Technique, published by Mountain Peak Music. Aaron resides in Nashville, Tennessee with his wife Becky, and their daughters Paisley and Regan.
