The Reason

The Reason is a fantastic Grade 3+ tune that will challenge your students to express themselves across a myriad of emotions. Performers are required to alternate between beautiful legato passages and quick agitated passages. The piece is dedicated to Eric Holden (1967-2002), the former Director of Bands at Desert Vista High School in Phoenix, AZ. His guidance, mentoring, and passion for teaching is "THE REASON" Mr. Wilson believes he is in education today.

"THE REASON" reflects the events that surrounded Mr. Wilson's contact with Eric - from the joyous and celebratory events, to the shock, anger and sadness of his illness. The end of the piece represents how many people's lives Eric touched and all the wonderful experiences that they had with him.
